September 7 Meeting
A meeting will take place at the Fields Institute on Saturday September
7 to discuss the math review and the next allocation process. Other
topics might arise.
-
Review of Mathematics
Site visits will be taking place in five cities (Edmonton, Halifax,
Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver) during the period October 19-21. These are
regional site visits and the intention is toinvolve mathematicians from
many universities at each stop. The intention is to use the relevant
mathematical institutes (AARMS, CRM, Fields, PIms) as the local
organizers and/or hosts. I would emphasize that the research institutes
are doing this as a service to the mathematical community. These site
visits are not site visits to the research institutes. I have thought
about site visits a bit and have also had one conversation with
Bourguignon on the topic. It is not clear how to most efffectively
organize these visits. Having one joint meeting of relevant parties to
discuss the site visits seems the best way of proceeding.
-
Allocation
It was suggested that it would be useful to devote part of the day to the
discussion of the next allocation process.
So the general gameplan is to talk site visits on Saturday morning and
move on to other things in the afternoon. The following people are going
to be invited:
-
Advisory Committee
-
Research institute directors
-
Members of "steering committee" for the next allocation process
-
Selected chairs
