1. To provide an extracurricular mathematics activity during the fall term. It will be attractive to senior level students, and to motivated younger students who have done some enrichment study beyond their school year, and particularly to those enrolled in fall semester courses who are looking for a mathematics enrichment challenge.
2. To act as a qualifying paper for the Canadian Mathematical Olympiad. Invitations to write the The Canadian Mathematical Olympiad are based on the performance in the COMC.

It should be stressed that while the COMC is a required step in qualifying to write the Canadian Mathematical Olympiad, it is not designed with this as its only goal. Many of the problems posed are well within the reach of any good student.

The 2009 COMC
will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2009.

The 2009 competition brochure contains detailed information about the competition, eligibility, awards, and a list of mathematical topics students should use to guide their preparation.
